Fieldwork
While full-time students are required to hold a part-time assistantship (~20 hours/week), students may decide explore another area of interest by participating in a fieldwork.
A fieldwork is a form of independent study that takes the place of a 3-credit course. In essence, a student's fieldwork would be counted as an elective course. Since a fieldwork would take the place of an elective course, there is an 8 hour per week commitment to the position, and no compensation is offered. Additionally, students are only able to participate in a fieldwork once during their tenure in the program. Participating in a fieldwork is an excellent way to explore other career opportunities available in higher education.
Students are responsible for finding their own fieldwork placements. Once a fieldwork opportunity has been found, they should speak with their advisor for further details on including this in their academic experience.
